Julie
and the adventure
A
short story by Jade Brian
Julie was 11 years old and of lanky build. Her eyes were
green as grass. She was feeling a bit heartbroken, and her hair with blonde
streaks was so untidy you’d think she was going blind .Her clothes were patched
and ragged you would think she was a daughter of a poor family.
The Watson family had to move because Mrs Watson was going to
have a baby any day. They had moved to 15 Canterbury Crescent .The Watson family
had a house almost the size of a mansion. Julie was feeling rather heartbroken
because she had left all her friends behind. Who knows if she would ever she
them again? Also this meant she’d have to start a new school with the
environment she barely knew .The house was about 25m wide, and the door to the
garden was blocked by a pile of bulrushes. The garden had an amazing amount of
space - you would fit 50 or 60 monkeys in it. The grass swayed side to side as
the wind blew a gusting amount of wind.
When Julie woke up the next day she was feeling depressed
with all the removal. She wanted something to do so she asked her mum if she
could help. But her mum said no because she didn’t want her messing it up. Julie
went out in to the car and started pretending she was driving it. She was
starting to get bored, but as she got out of the car the sky started to get
dull. She went into the garden and started to explore. Something started to look
funny in the distance at the far end of the garden. The garden had a long sway
of grass. There was a swing in the garden, which was too small for her, but she
played on it now and then. It looked like a molehill. She was standing there
amazed. She saw the hole had a door, she tried to open it but she couldn’t.
Julie suddenly noticed that there was a button with a sign that said “ PRESS ME”
- so she did.
Julie started to walk down an oval-shaped passage. It was
huge to begin with but as she got further and further the passage got narrower.
The walls felt very slimy. The walls were coloured grey and black, the ceiling
was pink. When Julie got to the bottom there was an unexplored world. Julie
thought she was dreaming, so she rubbed her eyes. Astonished, she was looking
all around where she saw an enchanted forest, where trees were speaking and
singing to each other. “ Excuse me”, Julie said, but there was no answer.
“Excuse me,” she bellowed, “Where am I?”
“ You are in CU Land”, said all the
trees together.
Julie wandered far beyond CU Land. She stumbled across a
pile of rocks and on those rocks she saw a painting of a little red creature
with a mop of ruby red hair and huge round black eyes. Her pupils were going all
over the place –they were like busy bodies. The fairy’s wings were as red as
roses but even redder. she was wearing a pink vest with pretty flowers on. Julie
thought she would love to meet this creature . She wandered off into some
bushes, where she saw a house made of candy. She went into the house where she
saw a funny looking creature, the funny looking thing from the painting.
“Hello,” said Julie “What is your name ?”
Kitty is my name” said Kitty politely.
Kitty was skipping along merrily through the woods where she
suddenly tripped on a stone. “Aggh” she shouted as she fell and landed on her
precious pink wing. "Shall I go and get help” asked Julie as she gasped in fear.
“Yes”said Kitty, "go to number 30 CU CU Island”, as she tried to move.
“Julie I need you to do a
very important job for me, would you like to do it?” said Kitty sadly (because
she knew she might lose her life).
“Anything for you Kitty”, Julie said, as she felt happy to help. Julie walked
off like her worries had all gone into thin air.
“Go and find the king,”
shouted Kitty, (as Kitty had raised her voice it echoed through the forest).
Julie had a smile on her face, as she spun around her eyes started to cross. The
king, Mr Goo Pants, lived on the other side of Cu Cu Island. The castle was as
big as a skyscraper. The castle was golden like the sun but the gold was filthy,
you wouldn’t believe how dirty it was, it was dirty like the floor. Julie
suddenly stepped on a button, which stood for a trap door. But Julie was
intelligent enough to notice her own mistake.
She walked through the door of the
castle where she saw the king Mr Goo Pants on his throne where his stomach
reached out to his identical hands. As he belched Julie had to hold her breath
as it smelt like rotten fish flesh and poo.
“Excuse me your highness” said Julie, as if she was scared of the
king, “I need your help - what will I need to get to help Kitty?”
“ You need
a bit of bogey and at least a cup full of blood from an ogre. You have 6 hours
to complete this quest, but if you don’t Kitty will sink to the ground where she
will suffocate and die.”
Julie
went to get the blood and bogey of an ogre but it was a very hard experience.
She had to go over a crooked bridge but as she crossed, the bridge began to fall
but as it fell she managed to get the blood and bogey from an ogre.
So Julie did what the king said - she got the bogey and blood
in 5 hours 9 minutes and 39 seconds. She speedily ran to Kitty – but because she
made a wrong turn, she stood sadly and gazed around her. Did this mean it was
all over for Kitty ? Should she go left or should she go right ? She followed
her instinct and turned right, and there in front of her was Kitty. Time was
running out - if she didn’t mix it up Kitty might die .So Julie mixed it up and
fed it to Kitty. By now she could hear her mum calling her. It echoed down the
tunnel like a howling wind.
"It's time for me to go now," said
Julie. She ran through the tunnel anxiously wanted to get to the top.
“Dinner time” shouted Mrs Watson
peering over the garden hedges.
