Luke helps a dragon

A short story by CJ Greaves

Luke was eight years old. He had green eyes, dark red hair, and was tall  and plump . He was feeling very sad and bored because he had no-one to play with.

One afternoon as the sun was going down Luke was wandering in the back garden when he saw a grey and green door hidden behind a rock. He looked behind and saw that the door was shut. He opened it and peered into the black hole. As he walked into the hole he slipped on something slimy. Down he slid landing in a pile of bones in a very hot room.

He was very frightened because he could not see anything; he felt like he was in an oven. He walked through the dark smelly tunnel and came to a large pond. He heard what sounded like a lions roar and out of the pond came a huge, gigantic smelly green frog with black eyes. Luke was scared and shook with fear. He ran away.

BANG he bumped into the biggest dragon in the world with a broken wing.

“Help” screamed Luke and then he fainted. When he came around he was lying in a river of red blood. He screamed. “Don’t be afraid, the blood is from my broken wing” said the dragon.

The dragon told Luke he was on his way to find a magic pond because he had heard if he drank a potion made from mushrooms, ants, frog’s guts and the water from the pond, it would make his wing better.

So the two friends set off to find the magic pond and all the things they needed for the magic potion. They found all the things and went back to the pond. As Luke was leaning over to get some of the pond water he fell in with a big splash. The dragon thought Luke would drown and die but suddenly up from the side of the pond a thousand foot, green, blue and black snake came up with Luke dangling from his mouth. The three of them quickly made up the magic potion, frog’s guts and all. The dragon guzzled it down. Quickly his wing grew back.

“ My mum and dad  will be worried about me” said Luke. “I must get back.” So his two new friends took him back to the opening.

As he climbed back through the hole he heard his baby sister crying. “Where have you been you naughty boy?” asked his mum angrily.

“Just around the garden” he said, sounding upset. But really he was happy because he had had a brilliant adventure.
